ABOUT MPA
OUR HISTORY And culture
Founded in 2009 by Dr. Amy Smith-Barnes and Meg McLeroy, LMFT, Midtown Psychotherapy Associates is a diverse community of clinicians from all disciplines; Psychologists, Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Professional Counselors and Licensed Clinical Social Workers.
We are a collaborative community of providers made up of independent practitioners. Our community includes licensed and pre-licensed therapists with a wide variety of experience, training, and specialties. Each provider at MPA determines their own fees and office hours.
In addition, we have developed a robust program of training and development for our pre-licensed professionals, allowing us to offer services to the community that are excellent value for cost.
Midtown Psychotherapy Associates’ ethos is built on the culture of inclusion and spirit of innovation and evidence-based practice.
“I believe what sets MPA apart is the fact that we have a large community of therapists with unique specialties. We put our client’s need first, consulting with other therapists in the practice and providing referrals based on the client’s unique needs. We do not practice in a vacuum; we help one another grow as clinicians.”

WHAT SETS US APART
(Special thanks to Cecil Walker, LMFT for crafting our Diversity and Inclusion statement)
We created Midtown Psychotherapy associates to offer a wide variety of therapeutic choices provided by a diverse group of clinicians in a welcoming environment of inclusion and compassion
The clinicians and collective community at Midtown Psychotherapy Associates are wholly committed to the open acceptance of all individuals as well as their pursuit of wellness regardless of location along the spectrum of identity. We work persistently and intentionally to foster an environment conducive to emotional and social development which means it must also be a welcoming environment respectful of the diversity of backgrounds and appreciative of the richness in variety of perspectives.
We recognize the societal and social structures of power and privilege that contextualize our relational interactions and strive to maintain an atmosphere of equity of voices, as free from prejudice as possible. “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Letter from Birmingham Jail), and as such, we at Midtown Psychotherapy Associates acknowledge this as our professional and personal duty to protect and promote the dignity and well-being of all individuals.
