Dr. Alex Gelernter, PsyD

PRONOUNS: he/his

Office Location: Atlanta

My goal is to provide a thoughtful, collaborative space where clients can better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, and make practical changes that align with their values.

I offer individual therapy for adults and young adults, couples therapy, and psychological assessment for ages 6 and older. I conduct ADHD, autism, diagnostic clarification, personality/emotional functioning, cognitive screening, and comprehensive psychological evaluations.

I have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent adults, individuals seeking diagnostic clarity, high-achieving adults experiencing insomnia, anxiety, or depression, and couples navigating communication difficulties or relational strain.

My approach is warm, relational, and evidence-based, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, Motivational Interviewing, CBT for Insomnia, and Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy.

I earned my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University New England and completed my doctoral internship at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center. My clinical experience includes Veterans Affairs, integrated primary care, psychological assessment, autism and ADHD assessment, couples therapy, insomnia treatment, and work with adults navigating identity, life transitions, trauma, and relationship concerns.

My work is identity-affirming, neurodiversity-affirming, and grounded in evidence-based practice. I practice at Midtown Psychotherapy Associates under the direct supervision of Dr. Amy Smith-Barnes, Psy.D., and Dr. Kia Silva, Psy.D.
